The first of Conan Doyles Sherlock Holmes books, the story opens leading the reader through the travails of Dr Watson and his acquaintance with Holmes. Once sharing rooms, they embark together on the Study in Scarlet, a tale for one unfamiliar to Holmes, which applies deductive reasoning to the search for a murderer, based upon keen examination of the crime scene. In common with other Holmes mysteries, both the perpetrator and the deductions are explained at stories end.
